For my Fellow Fur Parents

If you live in a beach community summer can be an awesome time! The snacks and shanty’s are frying things up, all the beaches are opening up, and the shops are back in full swing. But one thing I thought I learned, was that it was more difficult to bring your dog places (with the summer crowds flocking in and beaches not allowing dogs.)

Enter Waylon, our 8-month-old Australian Cattle Dog/ Blue Texan Heeler boy who has an insurmountable level of energy. He would put the energizer bunny to shame! Except for when he’s being a big softy and cuddling his mama (who am I kidding, I love it). Jonah and I try coming up with new ways we can tire him out and try to bring him everywhere we possibly can. Sometimes that can prove to be a challenge though.

So if you’re like us and want to bring your fur baby literally EVERYWHERE with you, grab your leashes and baggies ‘cause I’ve compiled a few places they’re allowed around these parts.

1. Sunset Ribs (Waterford, CT)

Overlooking the Niantic River this restaurant and bar is sure to please! Dogs are allowed on the bottom patio anytime Monday thru Thursday and 11-6 Friday and Saturdays

2. Downtown Mystic-

Some of the shops put out water bowls for four legged friends to stay hydrated as you stroll around this oceanic town! At the end of your adventuring or for lunch swing by Pizzetta where dogs are allowed on their back patio (and they have alternate menus for my vegan and GF readers!)

3. Downtown Niantic-

Another great town full of little shops. Waylon and I go down Hope street then loop around to Main steet where we finish at the old Frosty Treat (Now Tony D’s).

4. Mansfield Hollow State Park (Mansfield Center, CT)

5. Bluff Point State Park (Groton, CT)

6. Devil’s Hopuard State Park (East Haddam, CT)

7. Old Mystick Village

Peruse the shops and when you’re done head over to the Jealous Monk where they have 40 beers on tap and a beer garden outdoors to enjoy with your pup!

8. Niantic Farmer’s Market TODAY

Today (6/14) is Dog Day at the Farmer’s Market from 3-6!

9. Chester Dog Fair

Located at the Chester Fair Grounds, this event is taking place September 15th from 11-4. Admission is $5 a family!

10. Captain Scott’s Lobster Dock (New London, CT)

Order up some fresh seafood and enjoy a meal on the huge deck outside. Ice cream is also available!

11. Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk (Windsor, CT)

Go shopping with your dog!!! Now you can stay as long as you want and shop til you drop without feeling bad that your pal is in their crate.

12. The Cascades at Lake Mohigan (Fairfield, CT)

A bit of a drive away, but this scenery is second to none. Get a good walk in and the pup can take a swim too!

13. Mystic Seaport

While you can’t bring your fur babe inside the buildings you can certainly stroll around the seaport.

14. Timberlands (Guilford, CT)

A great place for your pup to splash around!

15. Jonathan Edwards Winery (North Stonington, CT)

Because wine. And your dog. All at the same time.

Know any more places to bring your pup? Let me know in the comments below! And hopefully by the time you’re done heading to all these places... your pup will look something like this.

All the best,
